Learn Upholstery Skills

Learning to upholster furniture can be very rewarding. Not only can you save money by upholstering your own furniture, you can earn money by upholstering furniture for others. It does take a certain type of person to do this, though. Pulling thousands of staples is kind of mind-numbing, but you can do that while listening to a podcast.  Cleaning up legs and applying a coat or two of Old English scratch cover is easy and gives you a surprisingly nice finish that you will be proud to show off. So what’s the problem? Why aren’t you upholstering furniture yet? Oh, you don’t know how to put the padding and fabric back on the furniture. You need some upholstery skills.

Learning Upholstery skills at home is very easy these days. There are many options available to you.

Davie James Book,

Available at many online and offline book stores.

You can pick up a copy of “Upholstery A Complete Course” Revised Edition 309 pages by David James or “The Upholsterer’s Pocket Reference Book” 167 pages by the same author and refer to them as you work. If learning from a book is your style there are many good upholstery books out there. I got mine from Amazon.com

If you’re looking to enhance your skills and achieve upward mobility in your career, consider enrolling in an adult education upholstery class if one is available in your area. Hands-on experience is often one of the most effective ways to learn, and by participating in such a class, you can gain valuable insights and practical knowledge. A simple Google search for “upholstery class” will provide you with a list of available options near you. Alternatively, some people have found success by approaching local upholsterers and offering to work for free in exchange for the opportunity to learn and develop their upholstery skills. While this approach may not be universally successful, it’s worth a try and could be a stepping stone toward advancing your career in upholstery.

I learn best by watching others work. With the advent of YouTube, I have been able to learn many different things.  As a matter of fact, all that I know about creating a website, video recording,  editing,  and uploading video to my membership site I learned by watching videos, over and over and over. I am a slow learner so the rewind button on my player is very well worn.
