Taking advantage of new technology.
The Window Covering Association of America’s Northeast New England Chapter plans 2010 events and meetings using new technology.
Kimberley Chagnon, business owner, Greenfield resident and newly elected president of the NNE chapter of the WCAA, was faced with a problem. Already attending regular monthly WCAA meetings in Littleton, MA, the challenge was driving back to Eastern MA for board meetings. Board member meetings are held once a month in addition to the general member meeting.
General membership meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Reuben Hoar Library in Littleton, MA, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Fellow board members live in Harvard MA, Medway MA, and Ayer MA. Thus, between the two meetings, scheduling, location and the extra time commitment became an issue. Furthermore, impromptu meetings are called, adding an additional burden.
Wanting to be green and at the same time take care of the board meetings, Kimberley suggested using Skype. www.skype.com
Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the internet. Calls to other Skype users is free and it also includes video conferencing. Now board members can attend special meetings without leaving the comfort of their own home or office. Not to mention the savings in money, time and rescheduling efforts.
